Youth Services

Youth Services provides safe, accessible and high quality programs for Koreatown youth. KYCC’s afterschool programs have been a mainstay in our organization since the day we opened our agency in 1975.

Nearly forty four years ago, we recognized the need for support for recently immigrated Korean youth who were having trouble adjusting, both culturally and linguistically, to life in the United States. Today, with over 60 percent of Koreatown residents being foreign born, KYCC knows that essential services for all children in our multiethnic community are still a necessity, and that case management, enrichment activities, and academic services are critical to their emotional and educational well-being.

KYCC offers afterschool programming for elementary, middle and high school students at two locations—on the eastern and western edges of Koreatown. Many of our students who arrive at KYCC as preschoolers grow with us through the elementary and middle school years, and move into volunteer and leadership positions when they become teenagers.

As many arts programs have been cut from our local schools, KYCC stepped in with our enrichment class offerings–in dance, acting, cooking, gardening, writing, science and art—to instill and encourage our youth to think creatively. Our student-led philosophy encourages curiosity and participation, resulting in an ever-changing lineup of fun activities at our centers.

KYCC works with over 500 students a year. We ensure that they have a healthy afterschool snack. We help them make successful transitions between middle school and high school. We are proud to be called “a second home” by many of our youth participants, and to watch them grow to contribute to the health and success of our community.
