Karsh Family Center volunteers
Karsh Family Center volunteers deliver fresh produce and pantry essentials to our Menlo Family Apartments every Tuesday. KYCC’s Menlo Family Apartments offers 60 units of permanent supportive housing for families coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. For residents, having a stable food source is sometimes a struggle and that’s where KYCC’s partnership with the Karsh Center came into play. Every Tuesday afternoon, Karsh volunteers pack brown delivery bags into a van and knock on the doors of Menlo tenants with a grocery bag full of staples – from grains, pasta, and cereal to farm fresh eggs and seasonal produce. Aurora R., a Menlo tenant shares, “Many many many thank yous to the Karsh volunteers! I can never show enough appreciation but I’d like to thank them for all their hard work. To be able to bag the items and save my family a trip to the grocery store lifts a huge burden off me.”
The pantry delivery program is not just about food though. When a bag is dropped off, volunteers also check in with residents to see what other resources they may need, and the Karsh Center is home to dental, vision, and legal clinics, among many other services. One volunteer knows that a particular family has a young child who loves to read and brings a different book each week from the Karsh library. It’s those little details and care that really make a difference to our residents. “I want to thank them for all their hard work and commitment and I and my family really appreciate all they do” shares Amy V., another Menlo resident.
