Kimngan

Kim Nguyenle has logged almost 2000 volunteer hours with KYCC during her high school career. She started volunteering with KYCC’s Tutoring, Enrichment and Mentoring (TEAM) program the summer before her freshman year and by her senior year, she was elected TEAM president. She has also given her time to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in KYCC’s Community Economic Development unit.

During her junior year, Kim’s older sister was diagnosed with leukemia and her single mother had to quit her job as a manicurist to care for her daughter. All this time, Kim managed to keep up her grades (she’s in the top six percent of her graduating class), work at a nail salon to help pay the bills, bus back and forth to KYCC from Venice High School, and give back to her community.

“KYCC is my second home. It’s an environment that allows me to thrive upon my passion for volunteering. By being a part of KYCC, I have grown to become a better leader and a better communicator. TEAM is special because of all the hardworking TEAM volunteers, adorable kids and supportive staff. Because I value education and relationships, TEAM is a great fit for me.”
