Hundreds of children and their families joined KYCC’s Building Stronger Families program at Los Angeles Trade Tech College on Sat. July 29 for the Second Annual “Culture of Respect” Celebration. Invited by Best Start Metro LA, which is funded by First 5 LA, the event was a day filled with workshops, resource sharing and entertainment that promoted healthy families in our community.

This year, we unveiled the Culture of Respect Mobile Mural, a visual representation that will be used to share our mission with other communities and organizations. The Culture of Respect pledge focuses on the values of mutual respect, the positive raising of children and equality for all.

“We are continuing to promote the Culture of Respect in the community to ensure that individuals, families, and communities are transforming their lives by practicing values and beliefs that will change social norms that contribute to violence,” explains Edith Aristizabal, KYCC Building Stronger Families Program Manager.

Building Stronger Families is a part of KYCC’s Prevention Education, whose Advocacy programs work with youth, parents, schools and community organizations to build a common vision: the health and safety of our community.

Over 450 attended the daylong event, which was hosted by community partners First 5 LA, Para Los Ninos, Best Start Metro LA, All Peoples Community Center, Pathways LA, Worksite Wellness LA, Peace Over Violence, and Esperanza Housing Corporation.
