On March 31, KYCC’s PRIDE (Proud Respectful Individuals Determined to Excel) youth and staff set out to Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles to pass out their “Packages of Love” to local homeless individuals. “It feels good to help out, if at least for one day, but I also feel sad because a lot of these people have nothing,” said Javier O., age 12.

PRIDE youth won the $500 Give a GOOD Hand to the Homeless challenge, to assemble and distribute their brightly colored care packages filled with basic amenities, such as toothpaste, body wash and snack bars. KYCC contributed an additional $200 to the cause.

As the children walked the streets, local homeless individuals called out to ask to receive a care package. Within an hour, the 50 packages were gone and the youth went home with a sense of PRIDE over their accomplishment. KYCC2: KYCC’s PRIDE youth in Skid Row with their care packages for the homeless
