In celebration of National Cleanup Day 2020, KYCC’s Environmental Services unit hosted a smaller, COVID-19 friendly internal cleanup event with KYCC staff on Sept. 19. Staff volunteered their time before their workday started to pick up trash in the community around the main administrative building in Koreatown.

“It is amazing to see KYCC staff care so much about their community that in light of COVID-19 they are continuing to show up and keeping their community safe and clean. By doing these cleanups, we are not only beautifying our community but making sure that this litter doesn’t end up in our waterways, green spaces, and the larger L.A. community” said Margarita Munoz, KYCC Environmental Services Outreach and Project Specialist.

Staff volunteers covered 6 blocks and filled 31 bags of trash. Some of the common items found were sanitizer wipes and masks, along with cigarette butts, wrappers and single-use plastics. Although this experience could not be shared with the community this year, it was meaningful to celebrate National Cleanup Day within the agency.
