On December 20, 2018 at the Menlo Family Center, KYCC held its 2nd Annual Menlo Pick & Go for Menlo Family Apartment residents. KYCC staff gathered secondhand items from generous individual donors and from the S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank and Baby2Baby. Residents were allowed to shop from a large selection of gently used items such as furniture, clothing, electronics, toys, books, children’s items and household goods for free. KYCC staff received over $75,000 of in-kind donations and over 70 youth and adults participated in this year’s Menlo Pick & Go.

To make this year’s Menlo Pick & Go especially memorable, KYCC staff photographer Bryan Zaragoza set up a photo booth station for individuals and families to take professional portraits.

“The event continues to exceed my expectations. We had many families smiling and thanking staff for setting up the event. Although it takes a lot of hard work and time to rollout, it’s something that brings me great joy. I’m always looking forward to it!” said Julio Barahona, KYCC’s Menlo Youth Services Coordinator.

KYCC’s first Menlo Pick & Go was started in December of 2017 to spread holiday cheer and make the holidays less financially stressful for our families. This event would not have been possible without the staff support of our Community Economic Development and Prevention Education unit who collected donations, sorted items and planned this event for our Menlo families.
