Since 2012, KYCC has hosted its Environmental Services Summer Youth Program, which provides paid positions for youth in Los Angeles to join KYCC’s Environmental Services team. Over the course of the summer, the youth take part in activities such as tree planting, community engagement and outreach, graffiti removal and abatement, street cleaning and more, to learn about how KYCC works to keep our community clean and beautiful.

This summer KYCC hosted three Summer Youth positions and one youth supervisor, who supported all of our Environmental Services programs including Clean Streets, Graffiti, Urban Forestry, and Community Engagement. While learning valuable work skills, the Summer Youth Program also provides the youth with networking opportunities and a safe environment in which they can also have economic stability during their summer vacation time.

During their time with KYCC, the Summer Youth collected 422 bags of trash, planted 19 trees, and abated over 3,260 sq. feet of graffiti.

“Summer Youth will always ensure us with a future hard-working, diverse, and enthusiastic staff,” says Albert Rodriguez, Environmental Services Manager.

Funded by the City of Los Angeles Office of Community Beautification, the Summer Youth Program is a seasonal program overseen by KYCC Environmental Services. Since its establishment 10 years ago, the Summer Youth Program has not only made Koreatown a more beautiful and environmentally-friendly neighborhood, but has also offered over 70 paid summer positions for youth in the city of Los Angeles.
