KEEP Community Roundtable Brings Residents Together to Shape a More Climate-Resilient Koreatown

On June 27, KYCC Environmental Services hosted the Koreatown Environmental Equity Project (KEEP) Community Roundtable, bringing together residents, community partners, and stakeholders to discuss the impacts of extreme heat in Koreatown and identify community-driven solutions.

The event was part of KEEP, an initiative supported through California’s Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program (EHCRP) Planning Grant, funded by the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation. KEEP engages residents through outreach, education, and community conversations to develop an equitable Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Plan that reflects the neighborhood’s unique needs, lived experiences, and community assets.

Thirteen participants joined the discussion, sharing personal experiences with extreme heat and identifying priorities that will help inform future strategies to improve climate resilience in Koreatown. Community feedback gathered during the event will directly contribute to the recommendations included in the final resilience plan.

“We are here to learn alongside our community partners and share out the knowledge that we know,” said a community participant.“There’s a lot of climate issues hitting LA and Koreatown and there’s a lot we can learn from one another from our respective neighborhoods, we are all just a stone’s throw away.”

KYCC was proud to partner with the Korean American Foundation, Jovie, and Translate One to make the event accessible and welcoming for participants. By working alongside residents and community organizations, KEEP continues to ensure that those most affected by climate challenges have a voice in shaping solutions for a healthier, more resilient Koreatown.
