On a beautiful, crisp L.A.-winter day, KYCC held its 23rd Annual Holiday Carnival at Leo Politi Elementary School in Koreatown on Sat. Dec. 17. Thousands of residents came out to enjoy the festivities, which included carnival games, raffle prizes and hand-wrapped toys from Santa and his elves.

Leo Politi Elementary School Principal Luis Ochoa opened the school gates at 10:00 a.m., welcoming the crowds of children and their families who had lined up for hours. Several hundred KYCC volunteers arrived earlier in the morning, to donate their time, from flipping pancakes at the community breakfast to handing out prizes at the carnival games, which included 12 inflatable rides and 4 game booths.

This year’s Holiday Carnival saw an unprecedented boost in toy donations—2,000—thanks to our donors, our dedicated KYCC staff that held a Toy Drive Contest, and our very first #GivingTuesday campaign.

KYCC Executive Director Johng Ho Song kicked off the event on the carnival stage, where the day’s performances—which included capoeira, a puppet show, My Musical English, and a trumpet solo—were held. KYCC also raffled prizes throughout the day.

California State Assemblymember Miguel Santiago handed out presents and called a winning raffle prize, demonstrating his longstanding support for KYCC. Nineteen sponsors set up booths providing resources and information for the Koreatown community.

Special thanks to Title Sponsor CBB Bank, Entertainment Sponsor US Bank, Game Sponsor HSBC, and our Toy Sponsor SoCal Gas for helping us make this event a wonderful success this holiday season.
