On Friday, April 19, KYCC held its third Annual Unwind Your Mind Koreatown Youth Summit at the Los Angeles County Department Of Mental Health Administration. Unwind Your Mind is a collaboration between KYCC’s Clinical Services, Prevention Education, and Youth Services programs to create a safe space for high school students to build community with each other, while unwinding with art, music, and interactive workshops.

In addition to the fun workshops and activities, the event also included a conversation with keynote speaker actor Ki Hong Lee who joined us as he shared about his inspiring career path and how he practices self-care, a visit from Councilwoman Heather Hutt, raffle prizes, free food, and service hours for the students.

The event takes place in the weeks before AP testing, allowing students to unwind but to also participate in mindful workshops and a resource fair, which provides youth with resources that cover topics such as mental health, cultural identity, empowerment, substance use disorder among youth, Naloxone training, and much more.

Students also had the chance to immerse themselves in a variety of workshops that were hosted by KYCC’s youth programs including Koreatown Organizing to Reduce Youth Opioid Use (KORYO), Spreading Awareness to Youth (SAY), and Youth Drug Abuse Prevention Program (YDAPP), along with the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Asian and Pacific Islander Children, Youth and Family Council (APICYFC), Jinea Soriano, and Marion Draws who hosted workshops around topics ranging from advocacy through art, empowering through vision board making & journaling, to Kdrama and karaoke, storytelling, and more.

Thank you to all of our Unwind Your Mind Youth program and event partners who made this event a great success! Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Administration, Sierra Health Foundation Elevate Youth CA, County of Los Angeles Public Health, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services Prevention and Aftercare, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health
