In March, KYCC’s Environmental Services and Youth Services completed the Menlo Landscaping Project. The program strived to make Menlo Family Apartments more eco-friendly through water conservation efforts. During the program, KYCC hoped to foster leadership in the families of Menlo Apartments to take initiative in their community.

During the program, KYCC hoped to foster leadership in the families of Menlo Apartments to take initiative in their community.Over 25 volunteers participated in this beautification project.

Prior to the program, 500 gallons of water per week were being used to maintain the lawn. By the end of the program, the amount of water used for the irrigation system was reduced to 200 gallons per week—an over 50 percent reduction in water waste.

“I have not worked on a lawn since my daughter moved to Seattle. This project really makes this feel like we are a community and Menlo Family Apartments like my home,” said Menlo Family Apartments resident Mr. Kim. “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate and thank you for caring about our building.”
