KYCC families and friends were invited to an exclusive private screening of the “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” hosted by Gold House and CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) on September 19 at the CGV Cinemas in Koreatown. Gold House’s Gold Open premieres, launched in partnership with CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment), is an initiative that aims to drive box office success for films led by Asians and Pacific Islanders and sponsor opening weekend theater buyouts for API community nonprofits.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which premiered Sept. 3, will be the first theater-exclusive Gold Open since the start of the pandemic, and is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe’s movie to feature an API superhero in the lead role.

“This was such a special event for our families. In a time of heightened stress and anxiety with COVID and #StopAsianHate, this fun, family outing to see a movie featuring an API hero on the big screen, was so special for our youth. This is why API representation in media is so important. Our kids will grow up seeing a strong, powerful hero on the big screen that looks like them,” says Peaches Chung, Communications Specialist.

Gold House is the premier nonprofit collective of Asian founders, creative voices, and leaders dedicated to unifying the world’s largest populace–Asians and Pacific Islanders–to fight for authentic multicultural representation and societal equity.
