During National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW), KYCC’s Prevention Eduction hosted “Noche de Arte”, an intergenerational art activity for families. KYCC partnered with Alfraro’s Creation Painting and Murals to host a virtual painting class for 40 families on March 26, 2021. During the painting session, participants were encouraged to express their creativity and consider individuals in their lives who were a part of their support system. Over 60 children and youth participated in this live online painting class, which was led by an art instructor with step-by-step demonstrations. Everyone was encouraged to enjoy the creative process and use the class as opportunity to reflect and express their emotions in a positive way.

National Alcohol and Drugs Fact week is an annual, week-long, health observance that inspires dialogue about drug use and addiction among youth. It is an opportunity for scientists, students, educators, healthcare providers and community members to help improve prevention and awareness of substance misuse in communities.

Prevention Education trains youth to become health advocates, helps parents establish a safe and drug-free neighborhood, and supports leaders and politicians in policy enforcement. Prevention Education is funded by Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC), a division of County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health.
