On Prescription Drug Tack Back Day 2019, KYCC’s Prevention Education Unit hosted Prescription Drug Take Back events at two locations: First Baptist Church of Los Angeles<\/a> and the Los Angeles Police Department\u2019s (LAPD) Olympic Division<\/a> on October 26, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. KYCC’s Prescription Drug Take Back events\u00a0help prevent prescription medication misuse in the home and in the greater community by allowing community members to drop off unused or expired medication for safe disposal, and also raises awareness about safe medication practices and resources for community members. KYCC again collaborated with the Drug Enforcement Administration<\/a> and the Los Angeles Police Department<\/a> to facilitate the event. Along with providing drop-off boxes for prescription medication, participants were able to enjoy free food and basic health screening services. In addition, representatives from local clinics and organizations were available to answer questions and provide assistance to community members. Through events like this, KYCC is able to provide a more extensive network of health education and health services in the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI used to throw away my unused medication in the toilet or trash can. I didn\u2019t know there were events where we could safely dispose of medications properly. During KYCC\u2019s April 2019 Drug Take Back Event, I volunteered at an activity table where participants learned to safely dispose of medications by mixing unused medications with cat litter. I haven’t forgotten it since. I share this information and knowledge with my friends and family even today,” said Parent Volunteer of Manos Unidas De Koreatown, Lorena Garcia.\u00a0<\/p>\n
