On Wednesday, August 31, KYCC Prevention Education hosted the first International Overdose Awareness Day<\/a> event in MacArthur Park! The first ever International Overdose Awareness Day was commemorated 20 years ago and<\/span><\/span> is the world\u2019s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. This event was the first time Prevention Education organized a community event to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The purpose of the event was to bring awareness to the current overdose crisis, including subs<\/span>tan<\/span>ces<\/span> such as opioids<\/span> (fentanyl), prescription and over-the-counter medications, alcohol, cannabis, and more.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Staff disseminated educational materials such as a <\/span>fentanyl fact sheet, resources, Rx safe disposal kits, and facilitated interactive activities!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The event had a successful turnaround and staff members were able to provide resources to at least 50 community members!<\/p>\n
