On Friday, May 1, 2026, KYCC\u2019s Prevention Education proudly hosted its 10th Annual Flores de Mayo celebration at the Garden Suite Hotel in Koreatown. Since 2017, Flores de Mayo has served as a vibrant community tradition that promotes alcohol-free celebrations while challenging the cultural assumption that gatherings and festivities must center around alcoholic beverages. More importantly, the event creates a meaningful opportunity to celebrate and recognize parents and community leaders for their ongoing participation in KYCC programs and their invaluable contributions to substance-use prevention efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s celebration marked the culmination of a year of dedication and collaboration from our Prevention Community Council (PCC), a network of over 150 community members, who form the backbone of KYCC\u2019s Prevention Education program. PCC members do far more than attend meetings or workshops; they serve as trusted messengers, advocates, and connectors who bridge KYCC\u2019s resources with the families and neighbors who need them most.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flores de Mayo honored the resilience, leadership, and commitment these community leaders demonstrate every day in advancing substance-use prevention, promoting mental health awareness, and fostering safer, healthier neighborhoods throughout Koreatown. The event highlighted the powerful transformation of participants into proactive community architects who actively shape the wellbeing of their families and communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to recognizing their collaborative efforts across KYCC programs, the celebration paid tribute to the many parents, caregivers, and role models whose leadership extends far beyond the walls of the organization. Through their advocacy, mentorship, and care, PCC members continue to strengthen community connections and create lasting positive change.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flores de Mayo ultimately serves as both a celebration and an expression of gratitude, a reminder that those who dedicate themselves to nurturing the community deserve to feel nurtured, appreciated, and seen in return.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
