KYCC\u2019s Prevention Education and Co-PALM (Coalition to Prevent Alcohol-Related Harms) co-hosted a June 2 town hall on underage drinking in Los Angeles. The meeting was held at the First Baptist Church of L.A.<\/p>\n

The Korea Times<\/em> covered the town hall\u2014\u201cAlcohol: A Minor Problem?\u201d\u2014in a June 3 photo<\/a> of the event. The caption reads, \u00abAround 30 community members and youth have joined the conversation to discuss the issues regarding alcohol-related harms to youth.\u00bb<\/p>\n

The town hall discussed proposed solutions from the community. The three issue areas are alcohol-outlet density, media messaging and cultural influences that impact youth to drink.<\/p>\n

Metro LA\u2014Koreatown, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Pico-Union, Westlake, Northeast and Downtown\u2014has the most densely populated alcohol outlets in Los Angeles. \u201cWe need a community that prioritizes the health and wellness of our youth,\u201d says Mihae Jung, Prevention Education Manager at KYCC.<\/p>\n

KYCC is working in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control Division, in implementing an environmental prevention effort that is aimed at addressing the use of alcohol and marijuana among youth and young adults. KYCC\u2019s Prevention Education unit provides community members with the necessary resources to advocate for themselves and the health and safety of their communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
