On Fri., August 10, KYCC presented its 17th Annual Benefit Concert<\/a> at The Music Center\u2019s Walt Disney Concert Hall<\/a> in downtown Los Angeles, raising over $420,000 for the agency’s programs and services.\u00a0 The concert was held in association with the Korean American Women\u2019s Association and the Korean American Music Foundation. This year\u2019s Title Sponsor was Wells Fargo<\/a> and the VIP Sponsor was Nissan North America.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cKYCC\u2019s Annual Benefit Concert is a wonderful musical performance, but it is also an opportunity for our agency to acknowledge the generosity of our sponsors and supporters,\u201d says KYCC Executive Director Johng Ho Song. \u201cIn particular, this year\u2019s Title Sponsor, Wells Fargo<\/a>, has been a longstanding partner of KYCC, and they are committed to supporting our Community Economic Development services, affordable housing and youth programs. We are incredibly grateful for their recent focus on family security, in particular, permanent solutions for families that were previously homeless.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"R&B singer-songwriter Brian McKnight<\/a> returned to headline the fundraiser with a six-song set that included the classics\u00a0\u00abStill\u00bb<\/a> and \u00abBack at One.\u00bb Actor John Cho received an Honorary Award sponsored by London Trust Media<\/a> for his longstanding commitment to KYCC. CBS2\/KCAL9 Anchor and Reporter Suzie Suh<\/a> was the evening’s entertaining Master of Ceremonies, introducing the performances, which covered a wide range of genres, including pop, Korean folk music and classical music.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"The evening started with the Korean American Youth Symphony’s rousing rendition of J. Offenbach’s \u00abOverture to Orpheus in the Underworld,\u00bb followed by a gayageum performance, \u00abShin Kwang Dong Byul Gok\u00bb by Ji Hye Lee,<\/a> with a string quartet: Haesol Lee (Violin 1), Chloe Kang (Violin 2), Hyeree Yu (Viola) and In Hee Na (Cello). The classical vocal group Uangel Voice<\/a> followed with a beautiful fan performance and \u00abYou Raise Me Up\u00bb and \u00abBeautiful Nation,\u00bb and KAYS concluded the first half with Beethoven’s finale from \u00abSymphony No. 5, Mvt. IV.\u00bb<\/p>\n

After the intermission, pop-soul artist CLARA sang \u00abBeau\u00bb and \u00abMy Kind of Lovin,\u00bb followed by Seung-Yon Son<\/a>, winner of \u00abThe Voice of Korea\u00bb<\/a> and a vocal powerhouse. Brian McKnight closed the show with his much-loved tunes, including a Nat King Cole classic \u00abWhen I Fall in Love.\u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n
