On April 13, 2019, KYCC’s Environmental Services and The Korea Times<\/a> planted 50 trees in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the largest Korean language newspaper in the United States.\u00a0<\/span>We are truly grateful for volunteers from the Office of Assemblymember Miguel Santiago<\/a> and Hwarang Youth Foundation<\/a> for participating in this event and especially grateful to the Wilshire Center Koreatown Neighborhood Council (WCKNC)<\/a><\/span>\u00a0for their support.<\/p>\n

Student volunteers like Daniel Kim, a high school student who attended the tree planting event with his 8 year old brother, learned valuable lessons on how to help newly planted trees thrive and grow for years to come. Many participants expressed a greater desire for more green spaces in Koreatown, one of the most densely populated and least green urban neighborhoods in the country. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00abKYCC is pleased to partner with The Korea Times to commemorate its 50th<\/sup> Anniversary by planting 50 trees along Western Ave. and beautifying Koreatown. We are committed to creating a safe and livable community through environmental initiatives and remain appreciative of the private-public partnerships to further empower the Koreatown community,\u00bb said Steve Kang, Director of External Affairs at Koreatown Youth and Community Center. KYCC’s Environmental Services team started planting trees to beautify Koreatown after the 1992 riots and have since planted 1,200 trees every year in the Greater Los Angeles area.<\/p>\n
