Koreatown Youth and Community Center and PCC Manos Unidas de Liechty Community hosted their 2nd Annual Community Cleanup event at John Liechty Middle School.<\/a> On Sat., June 22, 2019, over 110 volunteers from Assemblymember\u00a0Miguel Santiago’s<\/a> office, Los Angeles Police Department Rampart Division<\/a> and KYCC’s Environmental Services<\/a> staff gathered in the early morning to clean the neighborhoods around John Liechty Middle School.<\/p>\n

Twenty-nine youth planted a tree, seven flower pots and painted an alley wall. A total of 18 members from the PCC Manos Unidas de Liechty Community and 58 community members participated in this neighborhood cleanup. \u00a0<\/p>\n

A special Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to the PCC Manos Unidas de Liechty Community mothers from Assemblymember Miguel Santiago’s office. Students were also honored with a Certificate of Community Service presented to them by KYCC and the PCC parent group.<\/p>\n

When asked why this community cleanup began in the first place, a member of PCC Manos Unidas de Liechty replied, \u201cWe wanted to engage parents in the community, even though most have a language barrier and felt hesitant about organizing such a large community event. We wanted to encourage mindfulness and show others that we can make a difference in our community through small acts of kindness.\u00bb\u00a0<\/p>\n
