Funded by the Los Angeles Department of Public Health Tobacco Control Prevention Program, KYCC&#8217;s Prevention Education staffers Hilcia Guerra and Andy Lau, introduced students, educators and community members to the mission of LAYFTC, which is to<\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW71335831 BCX4\" lang=\"EN\" xml:lang=\"EN\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71335831 BCX4\">\u00a0reduce youth access to tobacco products and to create a healthier and safer community. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW71335831 BCX4\" lang=\"EN\" xml:lang=\"EN\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW71335831 BCX4\">The LAYFTC takes a policy-based strategy to tobacco prevention and targets community-level activism and collaboration. Interested community members, residents, student groups come together to work with the LAYFTC to reduce tobacco-related harms, death and disease throughout Los Angeles City.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">On April 2, 2020, twenty-four participants joined the first LAYFTC Zoom meeting and exchanged introductions and shared ideas for upcoming community events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\"> Lydia Lee, Prevention Coordinator of KYCC\u2019s Tobacco\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">Task Force<\/span><span lang=\"en\">, shared a brief update on the <\/span><span lang=\"en\">policy campaign<\/span><span lang=\"en\">\u00a0to<\/span><span lang=\"en\">\u00a0restrict the sale of\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">flavored tobacco product<\/span><span lang=\"en\">s\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">in Culver City and Los Angeles City.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">Prevention Specialist Andy Lau<\/span><span lang=\"en\">, gave a short introduction to upcoming trainings which will equip participants with the best tools and resources to advocate for their communities. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">LAYFTC will continue to meet twice a month via Zoom until the \u00abSafer at Home\u00bb ordinance is lifted.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>KYCC\u2019s Tobacco Task Force has been actively mobilizing community support since February 2019 and will continue the campaign through June 30, 2021.
