On Sat., April 25, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees District Council 36<\/a> and AFSCME Local 119 delivered 300 bags of essentials and groceries to Koreatown seniors.<\/p>\n

Along with support from California State Assemblymember Miguel Santiago<\/a> (District 53) and Los Angeles City Councilmember Herb Wesson<\/a> (CD 10), KYCC and AFSCME distributed food to elder residents at KYCC’s affordable housing buildings, as well as several other low-income senior apartments in Koreatown and the L.A. Senior Citizens Society.<\/p>\n

\u00abKYCC is deeply grateful for the outstanding leadership of AFSCME Local 199 President Gary Hodge and AFSCME District Council 36 President Andreas Jung,\u00bb said KYCC Executive Director Johng Ho Song. \u00abThey were able to coordinate a significant effort to bring food and basic necessities to our most vulnerable families.\u00bb\u00a0<\/p>\n

Union members gathered in the morning at the AFSCME District offices on Shatto Place in Koreatown to assemble several hundred bags of groceries. By noon, they were off to the locations to hand-deliver these items.\u00a0<\/p>\n

AFSCME District Council 36, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO in Southern California, is dedicated to restoring America’s fundamental democratic values and the dignity of working people, including protecting the struggling middle class, narrowing record income gaps, ensuring equal opportunity, and reinforcing the critical roles of public service workers in providing quality services — mental health clinics, hospitals, courts, parks, libraries, jails, and schools, to name just a few — that communities depend on, pay for, and deserve.<\/p>\n
