{"id":82067,"date":"2021-04-21T14:23:01","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T21:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/press-release\/climate-action-corps-fellows-join-environmental-services\/"},"modified":"2021-04-21T14:23:01","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T21:23:01","slug":"climate-action-corps-fellows-join-environmental-services","status":"publish","type":"press-release","link":"https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/es\/press-release\/climate-action-corps-fellows-join-environmental-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate Action Corps Fellows Join Environmental Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.californiavolunteers.ca.gov\/climateactioncorps\/\">California Climate Action Corps<\/a> fellows Miles Kim Parr and Krystle Yu joined KYCC&#8217;s Environmental Services in the start of 2021 to support local climate action projects on the frontlines and in low-income communities across Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>The California Climate Action Corp Fellowship program provides\u00a0 nonprofits with cost-effective, high quality Fellows that advance sustainability programs relating to resource reduction, K-12 education, and community outreach. Fellows that serve in CCAC are mission driven, emerging climate protection leaders who gain career experience while meaningfully contributing to the environmental field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Currently, they are working on projects such as the Koreatown Canopy Campaign and the Tree Ambassadors Program, that aim to grow our city&#8217;s urban forest through community engagement and education.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20451\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_8362-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_8362-scaled-1.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_8362-scaled-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_8362-scaled-1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_8362-scaled-1-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_8362-scaled-1-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/www.kyccla.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_8362-scaled-1-1536x2048.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>KYCC&#8217;s Environmental Services beautifies canopy-poor areas of Los Angeles by planting street trees and distributing free trees to property owners through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/opinion\/editorials\/la-xpm-2013-apr-23-la-ed-million-trees-mayor-villaraigosa-20130423-story.html\">Mayor&#8217;s Million Trees L A Program<\/a>. Through community engagement programs, KYCC is able to increase canopy in communities vulnerable to urban heat and climate change.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to working on their individual projects, they are also helping with KYCC&#8217;s bi-weekly free tree curbside adoptions with Los Angeles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityplants.org\/\">City Plants<\/a>. Every tree we plant is carefully selected to fit the space provided, and is adapted to our dry climate, thereby reducing its water needs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>KYCC also provides graffiti removal and community clean-up services, seven days a week, for Koreatown and central Los Angeles.
