On October 23, 2021, KYCC staff, community volunteers and the amazing employee volunteers at UPS, got together to plant 14 trees in Country Club Park, Los Angeles. UPS<\/a> employees were excited to roll up their sleeves and grab a shovel! KYCC’s Environmental Services team created a fun, hands-on and meaningful learning experience for this enthusiastic UPS volunteer group.<\/p>\n

The UPS volunteer group learned all about the process of planting 15 gallon trees, from choosing the right tree species for the location, digging a hole, to staking a tree. At the end of the tree-planting event, participants were encouraged to reflect on their experience planting a tree for the Koreatown community. KYCC’s Environmental Services team created a memorable and informative service experience that was team building.<\/p>\n

\u00abThe ability to come together and share the same space during COVID times, to plant trees, and engage in conversation with each other, were the highlights of this event,\u00bb says Margarita Mu\u00f1oz, Community Engagement Coordinator.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Trees are extremely important to the environment. Besides giving off oxygen, trees improve air quality by filtering harmful dust and pollutants such as ozone, carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide from the air.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n

This year, UPS is supporting more than 50 environmental initiatives worldwide with more than 25 in urban areas. Partners for these projects include Arbor Day Foundatio<\/a>n, The Nature Conservancy<\/a>, National Park Foundation<\/a> and World Wildlife Fund.<\/a><\/p>\n

Thank you to the amazing volunteers from UPS for spending their day with KYCC, and the Country Club Park Neighborhood Association for this collaborative effort. KYCC is proud to increase tree canopy in Koreatown and engage community members in beautification events around the city.<\/p>\n
