High School

Bridge 9th – 12th Grade

KYCC’s Bridge volunteer program, located at our Wilton Center, aims to close the gaps in academic, social, and emotional growth in our elementary and middle school students by recruiting, training, and placing high school volunteers who will work directly with our students in our elementary and middle school afterschool programs. Volunteers will be provided with regular trainings and workshops that will prepare and strengthen their skills as tutors and mentors to be the “bridge” for our younger students. The experiences our volunteers will acquire through Bridge will also enable and empower them to develop their leadership skills by forcing them to look beyond their own needs; Bridge will require volunteers to look at the bigger community around them and ask, “Where, what, and how can I contribute?”  For more information, contact Heather Jun at hjun@kyccla.org or (213) 365-7400 Ext.5118.

STOKED Mentoring 6th – 12th Grade

Hours:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with weekend field trips

STOKED Mentoring is an action-sports program hosted at our Menlo Family Center. STOKED believes that riding a wave, building a skateboard and gliding down snowy mountains can show teens that they are capable of greatness, despite the odds against them. Activities include homework help, community service events, skateboard building workshops and weekend field trips to skate parks, the beach and the mountains with trained mentors. For more information, contact Ernie Yoshikawa at eyoshikawa@kyccla.org or (213) 365-7400 Ext. 5132.
